Silicate plasters

The ultimate guide to silicate plasters

August 5, 2020

In them, the binder is potassium water glass, which hardens under the influence of carbon dioxide in the air. They are delivered in the form of a thick paste-like solution ready for application. They are used for obtaining a dragged or scratched surface structure, for external and internal application. This type of plaster dries without forming a surface film, is resistant to weathering, has relatively good water-repellent properties, good permeability to water vapor and carbon dioxide, reduces the possibility of retention of contaminants on the surface, is non-flammable and easy to apply.

They are produced with grain size: 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 mm. Silicate plasters can be applied on reinforced putty layers in thermal insulation systems, lime, lime-cement and cement plasters, concrete and other mineral bases or on old strong coatings of silicate paints. To a much lesser extent they are suitable for application on gypsum plasters, in which case it is mandatory to make a test beforehand. These plasters are not suitable for application on gypsum boards, synthetic materials and resins, varnish or oil coatings, lean, dispersed and lime paints.
