One of the first things that people notice when entering a home is the colors. Choosing good colors is not an impossible task, but rather easy and enjoyable. Don't limit yourself to just one color for all walls, but also don't overdo it with too much variety of colors.
We know that at the moment you think this sounds very good in theory, but you have some doubts about how to choose the right colors. Don't worry, that's why we're here.
First of all, you need to choose one of the main four colors by following the steps below. This way you choose the range that you will use for both the walls and the decoration. Don't worry - you won't end up with bright purple, green and orange walls (unless that's specifically the colors you're looking for). There are no rules for which colors to choose, so don't limit yourself. You will be surprised how nice it can turn out. If you need professional advice, on your Vancouver Home and Condo Painting we are here to help.
Step 1: Find Out if You Are a Fan of Warm or Cool Colors
People are different and everyone has their own preferences for their home, what decorations to add, what colors to trust and which style to adhere to. The most important thing is that you feel seclusion, happiness and harmony in your personal "fortress".
- Color can play an important role in achieving these goals. So the first step to finding your color scheme is to find out if you want your home to be a place where you draw strength, energy and inspiration, or a place that takes you to a more peaceful and quiet universe.
- Warm colors (yellow, orange and red) tend to be stimulating and can actually make the rooms warmer. They are perfect if you want to go home and feel energized instantly.
- Cool colors (blue, green, purple) tend to soothe and predispose to relaxation. They are perfect if you want to go home and relax. This is not an all-or-nothing solution, but rather a guideline of the range that appeals to you and helps you feel most comfortable in your home.
Step 2: Choose the Primary Color for Your Home
Now is the time to choose a color to be the primary. It should be your favorite and you would love to use it in all your rooms (because you probably will!). Ideally, this color should fall into the category (energy or relaxation) you have chosen for yourself in the previous step.
If you decided in Step 1 that you wanted to recharge at home, this should be one of the warm colors. If you decide you want to relax at home, this should be a cool color.
At this stage, you only choose from the 6 primary colors (yellow, orange, red, purple, blue and green) so hopefully this is an easy choice.
Step 3: Choose a Warm Color
Now it's time to choose a warm color - yellow, orange or red, which is not your primary color. The goal here is not to bet only on it, but to focus on its various shades that will help you transform the room.
Warm colors are stimulating. They have the power to shake you, to charge you, to activate your emotions.
The most appropriate places in your home for them are the kitchen, the living room and the dining room.
Step 4: Choose a Cool Color
Do the same with the other side of the color wheel. Choose one of the cool colors (green, blue, or purple) that is again different from your primary color. But it goes well with it.
Cold colors combine peace, concentration and peace.
Don't shy away from the cold shades. The synchronization between them and the main color can work wonders with your interior.
Remember that cold colors do not have to be in bright shades. On the contrary! You can safely bet a pale blue, green or purple.
Step 5: Choose an Accent Color
Last but not least, it is best to choose one color to be accentuated. It is a suitable addition to any room in your home. At the end of the choice of colors in the interior, you should have exactly four colors of the color scheme. You're almost done. But you're probably wondering what to do with the colors you choose right now. Here are the "rules" you need to follow in order for your home color scheme to work as well.
- First it is good to decorate using colors throughout the house. That is, when choosing a particular room range, limit the colors just to that particular room. Do not mix the colors throughout the house, as the result may not satisfy you.
- You do not have to choose bright colors for everything, you can trust the paler shades. It all depends on your personal preference.
- Use your primary color actively. It's nice to be present in every room of your home, but it doesn't always have to be in huge quantities or in the same shade.
